MMS Student Council

The purpose of our student council program is to provide an opportunity for our students to experience and practice leadership skills while serving their school and community.

What does it mean to be a member?

· First of all, members are representatives for their class. They listen to   classmates’ ideas and bring those ideas to the meetings.

· Secondly, information from the meetings is brought back to the   classroom. Members make announcements of activities that affect   classmates.

· Thirdly, members of student council are leaders of the school. They   must make choices that reflect good character, because their character   reflects upon our school.

The council elects the following officers:
President, Vice President, Secretary, Treasurer, Historian, Public Relations, and Fundraising Chairperson.

Who can be a member of Student Council?

Classmates elect two 6th graders from each of the 4 homerooms. Any interested 7th or 8th graders can join student council by obtaining signatures from 20 classmates, 2 teachers, and a parent. As a member of Student Council, students must understand that:

1) They will be recognized as a leader in the school and will conduct themselves in a     manner that is a credit to our school.
2) Membership in Student Council will be reviewed if there are signs of consistent     inappropriate behavior.
3) Academic grade point average must be at or above 2.0.
4) Membership includes the responsibility of listening to, caring for, and carrying out the     wishes of the students in activities to improve the school and community.
5) 7th & 8th grade students mush collect 20 signatures of classmates who believe the     person has these qualities.

When are meetings?
