Three middle school students and three high school
students will participate in the South Central Regional National
History Day Event on Saturday, March 20 in Madison at the Wisconsin
Historical Society and the UW-Madison campus. All the students
who are participating in this academic enrichment program should
be very proud of their efforts. Middle School students Kate Amerling,
Natasha Henkel, and Kayla Belfield researched Harry Houdini and
prepared an exhibit and a process paper. High School students
Jed Barton, Sarah Seegert and Kiley Kruger produced a documentary
and a process paper discussing the effects of cell phone usage
and how it has evolved in our society. Mr. and Mrs. Zarnott will
transport and chaperone the group. This year’s theme is
“Innovation in History: Impact and Change”. Best of
luck to all participants!
Congratulations to our 8th grade student, Talyn McFarlane. Talyn
won the CESA 6 Regional Spelling Bee and advances to the State
Spelling Bee in Madison on Saturday, March 20. We are so proud
of Talyn and wish her good luck as she represents Mayville School
District at the State competition!
Our 6th grade leadership students have completed their service
project of providing child care and activities at the monthly
PTA meetings. They are also participating in the PTA’s Lip
Sync Preformance at the end of March. Monies earned from these
two activities will be donated to one of the following organizations
that the students researched: The Make a Wish Foundation, The
Lupus Society, or Children’s Hospital of Wisconsin. Students
will vote on their choice at our next meeting on March 24. I would
also like to remind the 6th graders to bring their “Green
Project” final paper to the meeting on March 24.
Leadership students in grades 6-8 continue to work with special
needs students in Mrs. Derkowski’s classroom on a daily
basis. Students volunteer their study hall time to assist in various
activities. Please continue to follow your rotations…you
are all doing a fantastic job!
8th Grade G/T and Leadership students have been enjoying our “Lunch
with Leaders” monthly program. Students brainstormed names
of various community leaders and invited them to lunch for a question/answer
forum. We would like to thank the following individuals who have
agreed to visit with us and answer our questions during lunch:

Alderman and director of construction and safety for a company
in the construction industry, Dodge County Circuit Court Chief
