Middle School Earth Club
The MMS Earth Club's purpose is to increase our members' awareness
and involvement in their school, their community, and the environment.
Earth Club members are involved in a wide variety of activities
throughout the school year. We have planted a prairie garden, bulbs,
a tree, and a butterfly garden on school property.
We are involved in the community through volunteer projects, such
as Helping Hands yard clean-up/leaf raking for the elderly and cleaning
up the Rock River. The Earth Club members have raised money to purchase
trees to be planted in the Horicon Marsh. There is no cost in being
an Earth Club member due to our successful fund-raising projects.
This is just a few of the projects and activities our members have
accomplished over the past five years. The MMS Earth Club is open
to all students in grades 3 through 8. We usually meet on the first
and third Monday of each month with a few scheduling exceptions.

Expectations and Responsibilities for MMS
Earth Club Members
As a member of the MMS Earth Club, students will be expected to
attend meetings. Students are responsible for checking the calendar
posted in the main hall or the Earth Club bulletin board for meeting
times and special activity updates. Students are expected to show
respect for the advisors and other members in the group. |
Forensics
The purpose of Middle Level Forensics is to provide an introduction
to the several categories of public speaking. Categories include
Poetry reading, Prose reading, Extemporaneous reading, Humorous
and Serious declamation (memorized presentation), Four minute and
Demonstration speech, group play reading, and short story telling
(memorized).
A goal in Forensics is to provide a successful speaking experience
for all of the participants. Often the student with the most concerns,
such as being shy or a having a stutter, has the most success performing
beyond their own expectations.
Students who participate in Forensics are expected to follow School
District of Mayville co-curricular expectations. To summarize the
expectations, students should keep their grades up and behave respectfully
in and out of school with appropriate manners. |
MMS Student Council
The purpose of our student council program is to provide an opportunity
for our students to experience and practice leadership skills while
serving their school and community. |
What does it mean to be a member?
First of all, members are representatives for their class. They
listen to classmates’ ideas and bring those ideas to the meetings.
Secondly, information from the meetings is brought back to the classroom.
Members make announcements of activities that affect classmates.
Thirdly, members of student council are leaders of the school. They
must make choices that reflect good character, because their character
reflects upon our school.
The council elects the following officers: President, Vice President,
Secretary, Treasurer, Historian, Public Relations, and Fundraising
Chairperson. |
Who can be a member of Student Council?
Classmates elect two 6th graders from each of the four homerooms.
Any interested 7th or 8th grader can join student council by obtaining
signatures from 20 classmates and 2 teachers. As a member of Student
Council, students must understand that:
They will be recognized as a leader in the school and will conduct
themselves in a manner that is a credit to our school.
Membership in Student Council will be reviewed if there are signs
of consistent inappropriate behavior.
Academic grade point average must be at or above 2.0.
Membership includes the responsibility of listening to, caring for,
and carrying out the wishes of the students in activities to improve
the school and community.
7th & 8th grade students must collect 20 signatures of classmates
who believe the person has the above qualities. |
When are meetings?
Meetings are held every other Friday from 12:00 – 12:30 in
the 6th grade Science Lab. |
