The underlying objective of the Mayville Jr/Sr High School English Department is to instill students with necessary skills to be productive, contributing members of society regarding their critical thinking and effective communication skills. A foundation of instruction and assessment in basic competencies is provided at the freshman and sophomore levels. At the junior and senior levels educational opportunities are provided to prepare students for their career path of choice, with intense instruction of composition skills, speaking competencies, and literature analysis techniques. Emphasis is consistently placed, at every level, on empowering students to improve their progress in every area of the language arts so that they are capable of successfully mastering their life goals.
Mayville High School requires four credits of English for graduation.
Required courses include: Freshman English (2 semesters), Sophomore English (2 semesters), Communications (1 semester), and Composition (1 semester). An array of English electives is available for student selection, based on career path and skill level, for the remaining required one English credit.
