The Mayville FFA competed in the 2026 Wisconsin Envirothon with a High School and a Middle School Team. The Envirothon is a hands-on team contest consisting of areas: Aquatic Ecology, Forestry, Wildlife, and Soils and Land Use.

The Envirothon is uniquely intense, requiring students to climb into real soil pits to analyze earth profiles, identify aquatic invertebrates, and interpret complex wildlife surveys. The field station practicums are created and delivered by state natural resources professionals from county land and water departments, NRCS, DNR, DATCP, Pheasants Forever, and UW-Stevens Point.

In addition to the field stations, both teams spent weeks researching and preparing a response to this year's Current Issue scenario: “Non-Point Source Pollution: It begins at home!” Mayville students designed comprehensive watershed and lake improvement plans to combat real-world issues like residential runoff and algae blooms, presenting their solutions directly to a panel of professional judges

The Mayville FFA Middle School Team, consisting of Aubrey F., Serinity G., Annica H., Avery H., and Tayden J. had an outstanding day, placing 3rd in the Middle School Contest, placing in the top 3 in all areas, tying for 1st in the Soil & Land Use practicum, 2nd in Wildlife.

The Mayville High School Team, consisting of: Owen B., Madison F., Hanna H., Nolan L., and Samara H. put together an admirable effort going up against 29 powerhouse teams from across Wisconsin. The high school competitors went head-to-head with top-tier programs in the rigorous series of field evaluations.

Mayville FFA’s success at the Wisconsin Envirothon highlights the dedication of its members and advisors, as well as the community's commitment to fostering the next generation of agricultural and environmental leaders. Congratulations to all the competing students on an outstanding showing at the state level!
