Our 7th graders at MMS dissected frogs as part of their recent science unit of study on body systems and body system interactions. This focused on understanding how cells, tissues, organs, and organ systems collectively work together. Students were asked to identify tissue types and organs and explain their function, and explain the role of organs in an organ system to perform a specific life function. They dissected frogs since frogs and humans share the same basic organs, and frogs and humans have similar body systems, including the nervous, circulatory, digestive and respiratory systems. During the dissection students were asked to identify all of the frog's organs. It was an educational adventure! #mayvillecardinals #mayvilleschools #cardinalpride

On Friday our 7th grade class had the opportunity to visit Cave of the Mounds for a day of exploration! The group learned about caves and Karst landscapes to compliment the science units they’ve completed this year. Karst is a type of landscape where the dissolving of the bedrock has created sinkholes, sinking streams, caves, springs, and other characteristic features. The group was grateful for the natural air conditioning in the caves, and the views both inside and out did not disappoint! Mayville 8th graders in Mr. Cramer’s Exploring Agriculture class headed to the east branch of the Rock River this week for some stream monitoring. The effort is part of the Water Action Volunteers program collecting data for the Wisconsin DNR on surface water quality. Students perform water quality assessments to collect data on water quality, streamflow, clarity, and macroinvertebrate life – all factors that give a better picture of water quality.
